In a remarkable display of community support, Social Watch Africa (SoWA), a civil society entity, has successfully renovated two Kindergarten classroom blocks at the Anyirawase Methodist Primary School in the Ho West District of the Volta Region, Ghana. This initiative made possible with the support of Bianca Paraschiv and her friends at the French American School-New York, aims to improve the learning environment for young children and enhance their educational opportunities.
The dilapidated state of the classrooms had posed significant challenges to the students and teachers for years, hindering effective teaching and learning. Recognizing the urgent need for intervention, SoWA stepped in to revitalize the infrastructure and create a safe and conducive space for teaching and learning. The renovated classrooms now provide an environment that promotes active learning, creativity, and growth.
Moreover, in addition to the renovation work, SoWA generously donated educational materials to the school. These materials will play a vital role in facilitating the learning process and engaging the children in various educational activities. The Headteacher of Anyirawase Methodist Primary School, Vida Wotordzo, expressed her profound gratitude to SoWA for their timely intervention. She emphasized that the gesture will not only increase enrollment but also bring smiles to the faces of the children, who now have improved access to quality education.
Margaret Enam Glawu, the dedicated Kindergarten teacher, was overwhelmed by the swift response of SoWA to her plea for help. She acknowledged that while they were expecting assistance, they never imagined it would be in the form of such extensive support. She praised SoWA for transforming the lives of the children and expressed her excitement at the positive impact this would have on their education.
Kojo Asiamah Addo, the Lead Advocate for Social Watch Africa, urged the teachers to make the best use of the donated educational materials for the benefit of the children. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining the newly renovated classrooms in good condition, ensuring their long-term sustainability.
The successful renovation of the Kindergarten classrooms and the generous donation of educational materials by Social Watch Africa serves as a testament to the organization’s commitment to improving educational opportunities for young children. It is hoped that this intervention will inspire other stakeholders to join hands in creating a brighter future for the children of Anyirawase Methodist Primary School and beyond.
Social Watch Africa’s initiatives focus on various areas, including formal education improvement, strengthening local and central government systems, and fostering human capital development. By creating awareness about social issues and implementing sustainable social transformations, SoWA aims to contribute to the overall well-being of individuals and societies.
